What is the Difference Between Prilosec and Zantac?

Difference between prilosec and zantac

Prilosec and Zantac are commonly prescribed to minimize production of stomach acids, which helps to relieve symptoms of some common digestion problems such as GERD, acid reflux, and stomach ulcers.

Inhibiting secretion of stomach acids prevents regurgitation, common among GERD patients, as well as reduces abdominal pain associated with ulcer formation. Although both drugs reduce stomach acidity and promote alkaline environment, they have different mechanism of actions as their active ingredients are not the same. Also, if you are on a tight budget, you may prefer Zantac as they are less expensive than Prilosec.

The following write-up elaborates more on the difference between the two drugs.

Prilosec Vs. Zantac

Type of Drug

♦ Prilosec belongs to the class of proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs).
♦ Zantac belongs to the group of Histamine 2 blockers, also referred to as H2-recepter antagonists.

Active Ingredients

♦ The primary ingredient in Prilosec is omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, that targets certain enzymes to reduce secretion of stomach acids.
♦ The primary ingredient in Zantac is ranitidine, a new H2-receptor antagonist that targets histamine to lower stomach acid production.

Mechanism of Action

♦ Prilosec inhibits the activity of hydrogen-potassium adenosine triphosphate, an enzyme commonly referred to as the proton pump. The proton pumps that lie in the parietal cells lining the stomach wall are chiefly involved in the secretion of stomach acid. The medication deactivates these proton pumps, which significantly curbs stomach acid production
♦ As the name suggests, it targets histamine, a chemical secreted by the stomach. It is observed that the binding of histamine to H2 receptors results in the production of stomach acids by parietal cells. However, the drug interferes with this process of acid secretion by not allowing histamine to attach to H2 receptors. This works in blocking secretion of stomach acids

Prognosis Vs. Diagnosis

Difference between prognosis and diagnosis

Prognosis and diagnosis are terms used in the medical field. Many are aware of the term ‘diagnosis’. The term ‘prognosis’ is relatively less known. It is often mistaken to be synonymous with ‘diagnosis’. Thus, it becomes necessary to understand what these two terms mean. Both the terms ‘prognosis’ (pro meaning ‘before’ and gignoskein meaning ‘come to know’) and ‘diagnosis’ (dia meaning ‘apart’ and gignoskein meaning ‘come to know’) have originated from Greek words. Prognosis literally means ‘foreknowing’ and diagnosis means ‘recognizing’.

Prognosis Vs. Diagnosis

Definition
In medical terms, diagnosis can be referred to as the detection or identification of a medical condition whereas prognosis is the course or probable outcome of the condition.

Examples

If the diagnosed medical condition in an affected person is common cold, then it would have a good prognosis i.e. the person would not have to suffer for long, as this condition is self-limiting.
If an individual is diagnosed with a condition such as last stage of breast cancer, the prognosis is the outcome or chance of recovery with the help of treatment in order to live longer.

Here is a detailed explanation of the two terms for a better understanding.

What is Diagnosis?

Diagnosis can be defined as a medical term for detecting the nature or cause of a medical condition. In other words, it is the conclusion that is made by the doctor about the medical condition that an individual is affected by.

➺ An affected person would have certain symptoms that the doctor uses, in order to identify the medical condition. On examining the person, the doctor may further decide whether additional tests are required. Then, the doctor names the condition. This explains diagnosis.

➺ The term ‘diagnosis’ is used in other fields such as logic and analytics as well.

Classification of Alternative Types of Medicine

Alternative medicines have less side effects

With the advent of the Internet, the world has opened up a plethora of alternative types of medicine that have been in existence for many years, but simply never had the means to reach us. There are millions of people around the world today who opt for healing their diseases and curing their illnesses using these. The primary method of treatment of these medicines and therapies is to reinvigorate the body and aid it in warding off the diseases and illnesses using its own defense mechanisms.

The modern drugs and medications that are available to us today are an external source of combating these diseases, and in some cases display some very unpleasant and adverse side effects. More and more people are getting increasingly unsatisfied with the effects of these medications and are finding themselves unable to deal with these side effects. This has made the need for types of alternative medicine much more profound and intense.

Classification
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine Types (NCCAM) has helped people around the country by classifying these various forms of complementary and alternative medicine types into 5 broad categories. These categories make it simpler for a layman to understand these medicine types and to decide which one is most suitable for them. To have a standardized and generalized classification helps as far as this area is concerned, these 5 categories of types of alternative medicine are listed and explained below.
Alternative Medical Systems
Alternative medical systems are therapies and practices that have been around for many centuries, especially in Eastern countries. The amount of time that these therapies have been present simply means that they are complete bodies of practice. There is a lot known about them, and they are widely and

11 Ways to Ground Yourself

Ways to ground yourself

Caught in the race that life has become, you barely find time to stop and smell the roses. Most of the time, you are mulling over the past or worrying about the future, and hardly ever living in the present. Do you realize that? To be able to live in the moment, you need to gain complete control over your emotions and yourself. You need to be fully aware of your thoughts and actions, and achieve complete focus on the present moment. Among the most effective ways to attain self-control is grounding. It is more than just establishing physical contact with the ground. It is about finding that ‘lost connection’ with the Earth and with yourself. Grounding techniques help gain a sense of calm in stressful situations, concentrate on positive feelings, and think and act in the right direction. Here, we give you some great ways to ground yourself.
Ground Contact
The intent is to bring your body in physical contact with the ground. Walk barefoot whenever you can; on the grass, on sand or soil, or in water. This drains the excess energy built in the body to the ground. Avoid using synthetic soled shoes. They block the transfer of electric charge between the Earth and the body. Use footwear made from natural materials like leather. Make maximum skin contact with the Earth. Touch the ground with bare hands and sit or sleep on the floor.
Connect with nature for grounding
An easy way to ground yourself to the Earth is to spend time in the vicinity of nature, away from the electrically polluted city areas. Due to the heavy use of technology, we are constantly exposed to electromagnetic radiation and surrounded by the dirty electricity that most modern-day appliances generate. To
